Duenas Named SL1 Pitcher of the Year Award Winner Monday, May 25th, 1970 Willie Duenas of the South Bend HS Warlords was in command and couldn't do much wrong when he was on the mound this season. His outstanding 3-1 won-lost mark and 1.84 ERA were big factors in his winning the 1970 Conference 1 Pitcher of the Year Award. In 53.2 innings of work and 11 starts, Duenas struck out 39 while giving up 41 hits and 21 walks. He held opposing batters to a .206 average. Steve Currie of the Davenport HS Destroyers finished second in voting, while Mike Castillo of the Peoria HS Players finished third. |
