Carlson Gets 5 Hits
Saturday, April 4th, 1970
Dylan Carlson was at the head of a Independence HS Savages hit parade today at Swarm Ballpark. The 16-year-old went to the plate 6 times and came away with 5 hits, but it was the Lee's Summit HS Keggers that marched off with the 12-8 win.
"We didn't have it today," griped Savages skipper following the game. "Dylan did fine, but as a team, we didn't do it with the bats and we didn't do it pitching."
Carlson did more than fine, dominating the Keggers at the plate during his record-making 5-for-6 performance.
"Each time I went to the plate, I was thinking about hitting the ball hard somewhere," the sweet-swinging second baseman told reporters. "When I focus on that, I usually have quality at-bats."
Dylan Carlson singled in the 1st, hit an RBI single in the 3rd, flied out in the 4th, singled in the 6th, hit an RBI single in the 7th and singled in the 9th.
