Corwin Batters Sioux City HS Big Time
Saturday, April 11th, 1970
Speaking with reporters after a dominating hitting performance, Wally Corwin said his club's tilt with the Sioux City HS Blue Hens "felt almost like batting practice." The 15-year-old left fielder went a remarkable 5-for-5 at the plate.
"I saw the ball well and could just about hit it anywhere I wanted," he recalled later.
However, his sensational day wasn't enough for the Cicero HS Shamrocks, who were topped by the Blue Hens, 12-11.
"It's a good lesson for him, I guess," Shamrocks manager said. "Sometimes Wally is going to lose. But I would rather him go 5-for-5 and lose than go 0-for-5 and lose."
Wally Corwin hit an RBI single in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, hit a solo-shot off Ken Reed in the 5th, singled in the 6th and hit an RBI double in the 8th.
This season Corwin has hit at a .420 clip with 11 RBIs, 3 home runs and 14 runs scored.
