Ruggiero Has Hot Hand, Bangs 5 hits Monday, April 13th, 1970 Fans at Red Rockets Ballpark got to see not only a home-team victory today, but also one of the most impressive feats of hitting of the season. The Troy HS Lightning outplayed the Evanston HS Surf en route to a 8-7 win, but the standout was second baseman George Ruggiero. Ruggiero netted 5 hits in 5 at-bats and finished with a dynamite game line. "Hey, we tried everything we could think of to get him out," Surf manager said in his postgame comments. "We threw everything but the kitchen sink against him and he hit it. Maybe we should've thrown the sink, too." George Ruggiero singled in the 1st, hit an RBI single in the 2nd, singled in the 3rd, walked in the 6th, singled in the 7th and hit an RBI single in the 9th.
