| Doane Slams 5 Hits for North Carolina State Thursday, March 23rd, 1972 It's not something you read about in the sports pages every day -- a 5-for-6 day. For many, it might come around only once in a career -- and for Ryan Doane, it came around today.
The 22-year-old third baseman scattered hits all over Honolulu College Grounds to pace the North Carolina State Wolfpack to a 12-9 victory over the Maryland Terrapins.
Maryland skipper told reporters in the press room that "Doane deserves a hat-tip."
"He hit some good pitches against us," he said. "In fact, according to our scouting reports, Doane hit several that he is not supposed to be able to hit."
Ryan Doane flied out in the 1st, hit a two-run single in the 2nd, walked in the 4th, singled in the 5th, singled in the 6th, hit an RBI single in the 7th and singled in the 9th.
This season Doane has hit at a .288 clip with 38 RBIs, 5 home runs and 28 runs scored.
