19-year-old Frank Gilmer made a few Florida headlines during this past week as the rookie left fielder proved he could compete at the plate with his high-school idols. He captured the attention of fans, journalists and South Eastern Conference officials last week and today took home Player of the Week honors for his effort.

He cracked 9 hits in 13 at-bats to put up a .692 average. Gilmer collected 2 home runs, 7 RBIs and scored 6 runs.

For the season Gilmer is hitting .365, batted in 11 runs with 2 home runs and 12 runs scored.
