| Commodores Blank Gamecocks, Novak Wins Saturday, March 3rd, 1973 Mark Novak of the Vanderbilt Commodores dominated the day at Chimpanzees Ballpark today, pitching shutout ball against the Gamecocks and holding them to 5 hits. He fanned 6 and walked 4 in spinning the 6-0 win.
"I can't take all the credit for this one," Novak said. "I had some great defense behind me."
His stats sheet for the year shows Novak has managed to hold opponents to a .325 average in no relief appearances, while putting up 1-6 record with 42 strikeouts and 54 walks in 68.2 innings. He has a 7.73 ERA with no saves.
