Rivera Fashions Shutout Against Hokies
Monday, April 3rd, 1972
The Virginia Tech Hokies manager was philosophical in the clubhouse following a shutout loss to the Oklahoma Sooners. The Hokies were overpowered by Oklahoma starter Chris Rivera, who hurled his club to victory, 9-0.

"It was just one of those games -- shake it off and do better next time," said.

Over 9 innings, Rivera blanked Virginia Tech on 2 hits with 2 walks and 8 strikeouts.

"I kept them off balance. I could tell a lot of them were late on fastballs because they were fouling them off. Once you see that, it sets them up for other pitches," Rivera said.

"I set them up, where if they chased one breaking ball, they were going to chase another one."

In 18 starts this year Rivera has fashioned a 12-2 record and a 2.72 ERA.
