Round 1 Game 1 Victory for Bates and Springfield
The Round 1 got off to a quiet start today, with the host Springfield Squirrels taking a low-scoring 2-0 win over the Boston Red Sox. Springfield right-hander Richard Bates was marvelous at Yankee Stadium 1938 and was named player of the game. The Squirrels now hold a 1-0 lead in the best-of-7 series.

Bates delivered a quality start for Springfield. The 5' 10" right-hander allowed no runs on 6 hits over 9 innings of work.

"We had a good game plan," Bates said, "and we were able to execute it."

Game 2 is set to be played tomorrow at Yankee Stadium 1938. Slated to start are Dick Ruthven for the Boston Red Sox and Bud Culloton for the the Springfield Squirrels.
