Ramrods Hammered by Putnam, Drop Game 1 to Cardinals
|
The St. Louis Cardinals started the Round 1 in dominant fashion today, blowing out the host Huntington Station Ramrods at Yankee Stadium 1938 by a score of 23-3 and securing an early 1-0 lead in the best-of-7 series. Cardinals center fielder Pat Putnam was named player of the game as he hit 2 home runs. He scored 4 runs and drove in 6.
One important at-bat for St. Louis came with no one out in the top of the ninth inning. With the bases loaded, Putnam hit a grand slam, which contributed to the Cardinals win.
"We're happy," Putnam told reporters after the win. "When you're in the playoffs, you've got to treat every game like it could be your last."
The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Yankee Stadium 1938. The scheduled starters for the game are Steve Carlton for the St. Louis Cardinals and Lefty Grove for the the Huntington Station Ramrods.
