Sample Batters Manchester Big Time Sunday, April 6th, 1947 It's not something you read about in the sports pages every day -- a 5-for-7 day. For many, it might come around only once in a career -- and for Billy Sample, it came around today. The 26-year-old center fielder scattered hits all over Moose Park to pace the Los Angeles Dodgers to a 8-7 victory over the Manchester Mooses. Manchester skipper Chris Fagyal told reporters in the press room that "Sample deserves a hat-tip." "He hit some good pitches against us," he said. "In fact, according to our scouting reports, Sample hit several that he is not supposed to be able to hit." Billy Sample singled in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, singled in the 5th, struck out in the 7th, hit an RBI triple in the 8th, grounded out in the 10th and singled in the 12th.
