Stewart Spins 5-0 Shutout
|
The Eugene Emeralds manager was philosophical in the clubhouse following a shutout loss to the Spokane Indians. The Emeralds were overpowered by Spokane starter Sammy Stewart, who hurled his club to victory, 5-0.
"It was just one of those games -- shake it off and do better next time," said.
Over 9 innings, Stewart blanked Eugene on 2 hits with 3 walks and 5 strikeouts.
"I kept them off balance. I could tell a lot of them were late on fastballs because they were fouling them off. Once you see that, it sets them up for other pitches," Stewart said.
"I set them up, where if they chased one breaking ball, they were going to chase another one."
To date this year, Stewart shows a 5-5 record, 10 starts, 76.1 innings, 43 strikeouts and a 3.42 ERA.
