Salt Lake City Shut Out, 3-0, By Emeralds, Morris
|
Jack Morris of the Eugene Emeralds was on top of his game today.
The 27-year-old tantalized the Salt Lake City Bees with crisp curves and changeups, mixed in with just enough fastballs to keep the batters honest and came away with a 3-0 shutout.
"He had the changeup working," Salt Lake City manager said in postgame comments. "You knew it was coming and you still grounded out -- and then he threw it even slower."
The Eugene hurler had 6 strikeouts, gave up 3 walks and surrendered 5 hits in his complete-game effort.
Morris told reporters after the game that "keeping the ball down is the key to being successful in this league."
"If you don't do that, they'll make you pay," he said.
So far this season, Morris has logged a 5-9 record with a 3.36 ERA. He has started 14 games, hurled 126 innings and registered 85 strikeouts and 42 walks.
