It's not something you read about in the sports pages every day -- a 5-for-5 day. For many, it might come around only once in a career -- and for Bip Roberts, it came around today.

The 18-year-old second baseman scattered hits all over Sailors Yard to pace the Lynn Sailors to a 6-1 victory over the Elmira Pioneers.

Elmira skipper told reporters in the press room that "Roberts deserves a hat-tip."

"He hit some good pitches against us," he said. "In fact, according to our scouting reports, Roberts hit several that he is not supposed to be able to hit."

Bip Roberts doubled in the 1st, singled in the 2nd, hit a solo-shot off Carlos Cruz in the 4th, singled in the 6th and singled in the 8th.

In 1982 Roberts has hit at a .309 clip with 46 hits, 6 home runs, 28 RBIs and has scored 41 times.
