Monday, August 16th, 1982
Bob Sykes subdued the Tucson Toros, 4-0, pitching a 3-hit gem for the Tacoma Cubs at Cheney Stadium.

"He was kind of teasing them with his off-speed stuff, and his fastball was moving everywhere," Tacoma skipper said afterward.

Sykes registered 8 strikeouts and issued 2 walks in his superb performance.

"We just didn't swing the bats very well. Or else he just pitched good, whichever way you want to look at it," said Tucson manager after the defeat.

Sykes has posted a 14-4 record for the year with a 3.11 ERA. Teams are hitting .210 against him and he has rung up 90 strikeouts in 156.1 innings.
