Colonials Blank Phillies, Rooney Wins Wednesday, August 18th, 1982 James Rooney shut out the Reading Phillies 4-0 on a 7-hit masterpiece for the Pittsfield Colonials at Wahconah Park today. "He was kind of teasing them with his off-speed stuff, and his fastball was moving everywhere," Pittsfield skipper said afterward. Rooney registered 6 strikeouts and issued 1 walk in pitching a gem. "We just didn't swing the bats very well. Or else he just pitched good, whichever way you want to look at it," said Reading manager after the defeat.
