Lynn Blanks Phillies, Broersma Wins
Friday, September 17th, 1982
It wasn't easy but the Lynn Sailors made it look that way.
Starter Eric Broersma shut out the Reading Phillies despite having what he later called "sub-par" stuff, and the Lynn Sailors cruised to victory, 4-0. Broersma allowed only 1 hit and rang up 5 strikeouts but insisted later that he did not deserve primary credit for the win.
"It didn't feel quite right today, but I got a lot of help to get through," he said. "I trusted my catcher and the guys behind me bailed me out more than once when I screwed up."
On the season Broersma has compiled a 12-8 mark with a 3.32 ERA in 27 starts. In pitching 184.1 innings he has 152 strikeouts and 92 walks while limiting the opposition to a .194 batting average.
