Abrego Fires Shutout in Kinston Victory Tuesday, August 3rd, 1982 It wasn't easy but the Kinston Eagles made it look that way. Starter Johnny Abrego shut out the Burlington Senators despite having what he later called "sub-par" stuff, and the Kinston Eagles cruised to victory, 6-0. Abrego allowed only 2 hits and rang up 9 strikeouts but insisted later that he did not deserve primary credit for the win. "It didn't feel quite right today, but I got a lot of help to get through," he said. "I trusted my catcher and the guys behind me bailed me out more than once when I screwed up." This season Abrego has a 5-3 record with a 2.64 ERA in 11 starts. View Boxscore |
