5-Hit Barrage by Ortiz
Wednesday, April 29th, 1970
Speaking with reporters after a dominating hitting performance, Israel Ortiz said his club's tilt with the Irvington HS Yaks "felt almost like batting practice." The 15-year-old first baseman went a remarkable 5-for-6 at the plate.

"I saw the ball well and could just about hit it anywhere I wanted," he recalled later.

However, his sensational day wasn't enough for the Dundalk HS Triplets, who were topped by the Yaks, 23-8.

"It's a good lesson for him, I guess," Triplets manager said. "Sometimes Israel is going to lose. But I would rather him go 5-for-6 and lose than go 0-for-6 and lose."

Israel Ortiz singled in the 1st, grounded out in the 3rd, hit an RBI single in the 5th, singled in the 6th, singled in the 7th and singled in the 9th.

In 20 games this year Ortiz has posted a .333 average and put up these numbers: no home runs, 8 RBIs and 18 runs scored.
