Murray Belts Bunch of Base Hits
Thursday, April 9th, 1970
5 hits in a game has always been a big milestone in baseball -- 5 hits in a game gets a player's name in the record book, win or lose. Jim Murray got his name recorded today, but the Cranston HS Loons picked up the win at Buzz Ballpark, topping the Newton HS Spinners, 8-7.

"He bushwhacked us," said winning manager . "We were lucky to come out ahead."

Murray spoke to reporters in the clubhouse following the game, saying his nerves only set in once he was on the cusp of the milestone.

"I got too much adrenaline going when I realized that this could be a once-in-a-lifetime day," the right fielder said. "I think the coaches could tell I was going to be ready to swing at anything close. That's why my third base coach told me to calm down and wait for a good pitch. That got me back on track."

Jim Murray doubled in the 2nd, singled in the 4th, singled in the 6th, singled in the 7th and singled in the 9th.

Thus far this season in 9 games Murray is batting .368 with 2 home runs, 8 RBIs and 10 runs scored. He has 14 hits in 38 at-bats.
