| Peeler Pops 3 Out of the Park Against Wildcats Wednesday, February 23rd, 1972 His swing was a thing of beauty. Three times Matt Peeler swung the bat and three times he delivered a home run. It was an awesome sight to behold at Skyline Ballpark, but to no avail, for as good as he was, the Walt Whitman HS Wildcats were better.
The Clifton HS Mutiny couldn't capitalize on the big game from Peeler and dropped the contest 20-17.
The mood in the Mutiny clubhouse afterward was subdued, with several players remarking that they had allowed the Wildcats to spoil the day for Peeler.
"Some of the boys are beating themselves up about it," Clifton HS manager said. "They know we win as a team and lose as a team, but it's hard to really put that idea into practice on a day when one of you was playing on such an obviously higher level."
In addition to the homers, Peeler collected 9 RBIs and scored 3 runs.
"I got three pitches down the pipe and popped them," the Clifton HS right fielder told reporters. "Today I was in a groove. Tomorrow I could just pop the same pitches up and go 0-for-3."
Matt Peeler hit an RBI triple in the 1st, flied out in the 2nd, hit a two-run home run off Jeff Battaglia in the 4th, walked in the 6th, hit a GRAND SLAM off Tim Hassinger in the 7th and hit a two-run home run off Andy Brewer in the 8th.
For the year Peeler has hit at a .515 clip with 11 RBIs, 4 home runs and 7 runs scored. | |
