| Eagles End Tweedt's Streak Sunday, March 26th, 1972 Walt Whitman HS left fielder Evan Tweedt came into today's game against the Eden Prairie HS Eagles on a hot streak. He left on a cold one.
The Eagles did their jobs well, beating the Walt Whitman HS Wildcats 8-6 and holding Tweedt hitless to snap his 23-game hitting streak. The 18-year-old left fielder had a few words to say after finishing 0-for-5, telling reporters only that he "came up short."
"What Evan did was exciting and quite an achievement," said Wildcats manager . "It's tough enough to get one hit in this league, much less go 23 games in a row. I'm even more proud of the way he handled the press coverage. He never let the frenzy get to him or affect his play."
So far this season Tweedt is hitting .351 with 4 home runs, 25 RBIs and 21 runs scored. He has 52 hits in 148 at-bats and a .449 OBP. | |
