The Westfield HS left fielder made Memorial HS defenders earn their pay, lashing Memorial HS pitching for 5 hits in 6 at-bats in the game. He told BNN reporters after the game that his strategy was "just hit it where they pitched it." "Too often I try too hard to pull the ball," Mayberry said in his postgame press conference. "Today, I just went with the pitch." John Mayberry singled in the 1st, hit a three-run double in the 2nd, doubled in the 4th, struck out in the 5th, hit a three-run home run off Bill Sauter in the 6th and hit a two-run home run off Jeremy Cole in the 8th.
