 | 5-Hit Barrage by Mayberry Thursday, March 30th, 1972 It doesn't happen very often, but it did for John Mayberry today -- a 5-hit effort. He went on a rampage at Apollos Ballpark and paced the Fighting Knights to a 18-9 win over the Harborfields HS Tornados. After his dynamite batting performance, the Westfield HS left fielder told reporters that he "just tried to get in a good count and have a good at-bat. That's all I can control." His philosophy paid dividends today. He slammed 5 hits in 6 tries and put his name in the record book. John Mayberry doubled in the 1st, struck out in the 3rd, hit a two-run single in the 4th, singled in the 5th, hit an RBI single in the 6th and singled in the 8th.
