Round 1 Game 1 Victory for Nolan and Cincinnati
|
The Cincinnati Reds started the Round 1 in style today, downing the visiting Chicago White Sox at Yankee Stadium 1938 by a score of 6-4 to stake an early 1-0 lead in the best-of-7 series. Reds right-hander Gary Nolan was named player of the game after he threw 9 innings allowing 4 runs.
Nate Colbert helped out the Cincinnati cause in the bottom of the sixth inning with a 2-run double. For the game, the first baseman was 1-4 with a double, while adding 2 RBI.
"It's true for every sport, I think, but the playoffs are so short that you've just got to get in and get hot," Cincinnati manager Jonathan Poweles told BNN after the win. "We took care of the first part and now we're just working on the second."
The next game is scheduled for tomorrow in Cincinnati. Slated to start are Pete Vuckovich for Chicago and Sam McDowell for Cincinnati.
